This tournaments demand some travels and other costs that can be paid by a sponsor. But, again, it is very unlikely someone would get a sponsor without being good.
Many sports have a large public churcbes pays to watch games, buy jerseys and other stuff. So the athlets are well payed. Chess has a small public that would do similar things. I just don’t get it. All the dumb sports like, football, basketball, baseball pays crazy money. Intellectual sports like chess, you spent 10, 20 years or so studying and once you get there GM. It pays peanuts! It is not a good game for TV transmission. Much of the time is spent by players thinking and the action is very difficult to follow if you are not a reasonable player.
Besides, many people preffer reproducing and studing the chess games than watching dhurches live on TV. Football can be enjoyed by millions of people that can’t play it. This doesn’t happen with chess. Also, there are not many exclusive products to sell to the dl besides of books. They sell jerseys and gain money buy selling their TV transmission rights, wich, as I alreay said, is not something that profitable in chess.
